Fort Washington Map Poster & Print
Fort Washington is a suburban community in Prince George's County, Maryland, on the eastern bank of the Potomac River south of Washington, D.C. Its map is typical of later twentieth-century suburbs: winding residential streets, loops and cul-de-sacs, patches of woodland and creeks folded into the pattern rather than a formal grid.
The community takes its name from Fort Washington, an early nineteenth-century fortification built to guard the river approach to the capital. It still stands in Fort Washington Park on a bluff above the Potomac, facing the Virginia shore near Mount Vernon. Piscataway Creek opens into the river nearby, adding a broad inlet to the edge of the map.
A Fort Washington map poster shows these layers together: the wide river, the green park around the old fort, and the soft curves of the neighbourhoods behind them. Indian Head Highway runs north and south through the area as a firm line against the looser pattern of residential streets around it.

Residential streets curve through wooded ground in loops and cul-de-sacs. Indian Head Highway cuts straight through them, the main route toward the capital.
