Seven hills
The city spreads across a group of hills. On the map, streets curve and loop to follow the terrain instead of forming a regular grid.

关于地图
Garanhuns Map Poster & Print
Garanhuns sits on the Borborema plateau in the agreste of Pernambuco, roughly 230 kilometres inland from Recife. The city is built across several hills, often said to be seven, so its streets rarely run straight for long. They bend around slopes, climb steadily and open onto small squares and parks, giving the map a rounded, organic pattern.
Its altitude gives it a mild climate that is unusual for north-eastern Brazil, which is why it is nicknamed the Suíça Pernambucana, or Pernambuco's Switzerland. Every July the city hosts the Festival de Inverno de Garanhuns, a large winter arts festival. Former president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva was born in an area that was then part of the municipality.
A Garanhuns map poster makes the most of this hilly layout. The winding streets, the green spaces tucked between slopes and the roads leaving across the plateau in several directions create a composition full of movement. It looks very different from the straight grids of Brazil's coastal cities.

Parks and squares
Green spaces are scattered across the centre, including the well-known flower clock. They appear on the map as quiet pockets between the curving blocks.
Plateau roads
Highways leave the city across the plateau toward Recife and the interior. Their long lines anchor the more intricate street pattern at the centre.
