The bridge to Lewis
A short road bridge crosses the narrow sound to Lewis. It is a small line on the map, but it ended the island's dependence on boats.

关于地图
Great Bernera Map Poster & Print
Great Bernera lies in Loch Roag on the west coast of the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. It is small and rocky, with lochans scattered across its surface and a coast broken into narrow inlets and headlands. A handful of townships sit along a simple road network, and since 1953 a bridge has linked the island to Lewis across a narrow channel.
At Bosta, on the northern shore, storms in the 1990s uncovered the remains of an Iron Age village, and a replica house now stands near the beach. Across the water lies the Lewis shore of Loch Roag, home to the Callanish Stones. The surrounding sea lochs are dotted with smaller islands, some of them uninhabited.
A Great Bernera map poster shows a place where water and land interlock almost everywhere: sea inlets reaching in from outside, freshwater lochans scattered inland and a thin road threading between them. In black and white the result is intricate and calm, a fitting portrait of a Hebridean island for anyone who knows the west of Lewis.

Scattered lochans
Many small freshwater lochs dot the rocky interior, creating a fine speckled pattern of water between the township roads and the open moor.
Bosta beach
This sandy bay on the north coast, where an Iron Age village was uncovered, forms one of the few soft curves in an otherwise rocky shoreline.
