Greiz Map Poster & Print
Greiz, in eastern Thuringia, lies in a narrow stretch of the White Elster valley. The river winds through the middle of town, and the streets follow it on both sides before climbing the slopes. Above the centre, the Upper Castle stands on a rocky hill, while the Lower Castle sits near the river. From above, the town is long and curving, shaped by the valley rather than by a plan.
For centuries Greiz was a seat of the Princes of Reuss, which explains its castles and the Greiz Park, a large English-style landscape park laid out along the river. The park contains the Summer Palace, which houses a collection of prints and satirical art. The town is sometimes called the Pearl of the Vogtland.

The Upper Castle sits on a steep outcrop above the centre. On the map, roads loop around the hill and leave its crown largely open, so it is easy to spot.
