Guidiguis is a town in Cameroon's Far North Region, in the Mayo-Kani department, on the broad plains of the Sudano-Sahelian zone. The landscape is flat and open, and the town reflects it: streets and compounds spread outward with plenty of space between them, and the edges of the settlement fade gradually into fields and grassland.
In this part of Cameroon, towns serve as markets and meeting points for farming communities across the surrounding countryside, and roads converge on them accordingly. The seasonal rhythm of rains and dry months shapes both the land and daily life, and watercourses that may be dry for much of the year leave faint lines across the plain.
