Guiseley lies in the north-west of the City of Leeds district, between the Aire valley and Wharfedale. It was once a textile and market town and is now mostly residential. The map shows an older centre of stone-built streets surrounded by later housing estates, with fields and higher ground close by.
The A65 runs through the town as its main road, and the Wharfedale railway line crosses it, with a station serving commuters to Leeds and Bradford. To the south the built-up area merges almost seamlessly with Yeadon. Leeds Bradford Airport sits a short distance away on higher ground.
Guiseley is well known as the home of the original Harry Ramsden's fish and chip shop, opened in 1928, which later grew into a national chain. A Guiseley map poster captures the town's mix of old core, suburban streets and rising ground at the edge of Wharfedale.
