Hendala Map Poster & Print
Hendala lies on the west coast of Sri Lanka, north of Colombo and close to Wattala in Gampaha District. From above it is a long strip of low land, bounded by the Indian Ocean to the west and the main road to Negombo inland. Houses and small lanes fill the ground between them, with coconut palms and wetland patches in between.
The Hamilton Canal runs parallel to the coast through the area. It was built during the colonial period to link Colombo with Negombo by water, and on the map it draws a thin line alongside the shoreline. Short lanes run across the strip from the road to the beach, crossing the canal on small bridges.
Hendala is also known for its hospital, founded in the Dutch colonial era and one of the oldest medical institutions on the island. A Hendala map poster shows the shape of this coastal suburb: the sea, the canal, the main road and the lanes that link them.
