Heston Map Poster & Print
Heston is in the London Borough of Hounslow, between the town of Hounslow and the M4. On a map it looks like a typical twentieth-century London suburb: curved residential closes, long roads of semi-detached houses and patches of park and playing field. The motorway crosses the area in a firm diagonal, and the huge open outline of Heathrow Airport sits just to the west.
Heston started as a village and still has a parish church at its old centre, although the suburbs that came later now surround it. The area has a well-known place in aviation history. Neville Chamberlain landed at Heston Aerodrome in 1938 on his return from Munich and read out his statement there. The airfield has closed, but aviation is still close by, since Heathrow's runways lie a short distance away.
