Hoogvliet Map Poster & Print
Hoogvliet is a district of Rotterdam on the north bank of the Oude Maas, southwest of the city centre. It was once a small village, but after the Second World War it was expanded as a new town, largely to house workers from the nearby Shell refinery and the growing port industry at Pernis and Botlek.
From above, its plan shows those intentions clearly. Neighbourhoods are arranged in separate units with curving streets, courtyards and plenty of green space, divided by parks and water. Motorways and industrial zones border the district, and the river forms a broad southern edge.
A Hoogvliet map poster sets these planned neighbourhoods against the river and the large, geometric shapes of the port facilities. In black and white, the contrast between residential curves, straight canals and industrial blocks makes a strong graphic print, a portrait of Dutch post-war planning.
