Hough Map Poster & Print
Hough is a neighbourhood on the east side of Cleveland, Ohio, set between two of the city's major avenues, Euclid to the south and Superior to the north. On a map it is a clear block of streets: long east–west avenues crossed by numbered north–south streets, forming the dense residential grid typical of an American industrial city in the late nineteenth century.
The neighbourhood's history is visible in its outline. It was once a prosperous residential district. The 1966 Hough uprising became a turning point in its story, and decades of demolition and rebuilding left a mix of older blocks, open lots and newer housing. League Park, where Cleveland's major league baseball team played until 1946, still stands within the grid.
A Hough map poster presents the neighbourhood as a pattern of fine parallel lines, with the heavier avenues framing it and the open ground of University Circle's institutions to the east.
