İdil Map Poster & Print
İdil is a district town in Şırnak Province in southeastern Turkey. It sits where the uplands of the Tur Abdin plateau begin to drop toward the plains of upper Mesopotamia. On a map, the streets climb and curve along a hillside, with dense housing near the historic core and newer blocks spreading out along the approach roads.
The town has a long Syriac Christian history and is known in Syriac as Azakh. For centuries it was part of the Tur Abdin region, which holds one of the oldest surviving concentrations of Syriac monasteries and villages in the world. Today its population is largely Kurdish, and the town serves as a local centre for the surrounding villages.
An İdil map poster shows a town shaped by its slope. Streets follow the contours and bend around the hillside, and the older quarter is noticeably denser than the newer grids below it. Open, rolling country surrounds everything. The drawing has the quiet texture of a place with deep layers of history.
