Inta Map Poster & Print
Inta stands in the Komi Republic, near the western foot of the Polar Urals and a little south of the Arctic Circle. The town grew in the twentieth century around coal from the Pechora basin. Much of its early construction was done by prisoners of the Gulag camp system, and that history is part of how the town is remembered.
From above, Inta is plainly planned. Wide, straight streets set out regular residential blocks, the railway line to the north runs along one side, and mine sites and industrial ground sit at the edges. Beyond them the map empties into forest, bog and small rivers. A few lines in any direction and the settlement is gone.
An Inta map poster captures that contrast between an ordered grid and an enormous empty landscape. Railway to the north
Inta sits on the railway that runs north towards Vorkuta through the Komi Republic. Its track is one of the longest continuous lines on the map.
Tundra-edge surroundings
Around the town, rivers, wetland and sparse forest spread out with almost no roads. The result is wide, quiet margins that make the compact grid look even more isolated.
