Isla Map Poster & Print
Isla is a town and municipality in the south of Veracruz, in the lowland basin of the Papaloapan river system. On a map the town appears as a regular block grid, a pattern common in Mexican towns of this region, with a central square and streets extending out in straight lines. Beyond the last blocks, the land opens into a wide agricultural plain crossed by farm tracks and highways.
The municipality is known in Mexico for growing pineapple, and fields reach far out from the town. From above they show as a fine texture of rectangular plots and access roads that give the surrounding countryside a structured, almost geometric look. Small streams and drainage lines cross the flat terrain, a reminder of the wet tropical climate of the Gulf lowlands.
