Jalapa Map Poster & Print
Jalapa is the capital of the department of the same name in eastern Guatemala. The town lies in a valley in the highlands, and its centre follows the regular grid that Spanish-era towns across the country share: straight streets meeting at right angles around a central square, with the church and public buildings facing it.
Beyond the centre the grid loosens. Newer neighbourhoods climb the lower slopes, roads bend with the terrain, and the built-up area gives way to fields and scattered houses on the surrounding hills. On a map this creates a clear contrast between the orderly core and the looser, more organic edges shaped by the land around it.
The region is known for agriculture, dairy and cattle raising, and the town has long served as a market and administrative centre for nearby rural communities.
