Jurong Town Map Poster & Print
Jurong covers the western part of Singapore. Most of it was built from the 1960s onward as the country's first major industrial estate. Swamp and low hills were reshaped into a planned landscape of factory blocks, port facilities and housing estates. On the map this shows as large rectangular plots, long main roads and dense clusters of public housing.
Jurong Lake sits in the middle of the district, created by damming the Jurong River. Its shoreline and the parkland around it, including the Chinese and Japanese gardens on its islands, form the main open space on the map. Around the lake, the Jurong Lake District is being developed as a second major business centre outside the city core.
Offshore, Jurong Island was formed by joining several smaller islands through reclamation, and it now holds the petrochemical industry. A Jurong Town map poster frames the grid of industrial roads, the curving lakeshore and the coastline to the south. It records how deliberately this part of Singapore was planned.
