Kadakkavoor is in the Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, on India's southwest coast. From above, the town lies on a narrow strip of land between the Arabian Sea and a system of backwater lagoons and canals. Roads and lanes run between houses and palm groves, and the water gives the whole area a clear shape.
This stretch of coast has a long connection with the sea and trade. The historic Anchuthengu fort, built by the English East India Company, stands nearby. The coastline is straight and sandy, while the backwaters behind it spread into irregular inlets that stand out sharply on the map.
