Kalakkādu Map Poster & Print
Kalakkādu is a town in Tirunelveli district, in the far south of Tamil Nadu. It sits where the plains meet the steep eastern face of the Western Ghats, and the map makes that boundary very clear. Streets and fields lie on one side and dense forest contours on the other. The town itself is compact, with lanes gathered around its temple and market.
The hills above the town belong to the Kalakkad Mundanthurai Tiger Reserve, one of the most important protected areas in southern India. It is known for its rainforest, endemic species and the lion-tailed macaque. Streams running down these slopes feed the tanks and channels that water the rice and banana fields around Kalakkādu.
A Kalakkādu map poster is a study in contrast between farmed plain and wild mountain. The eastern half fills with a patient network of fields, tanks and small roads. The western half becomes almost empty, a quiet reminder of the forest that begins just past the last village.
