Compound blocks
Family compounds form irregular blocks separated by sandy streets, giving the town a loose, open texture unlike dense European grids.

关于地图
Kanel Map Poster & Print
Kanel lies in the Matam region of eastern Senegal, inland from the Senegal River valley, on the edge of the dry Ferlo country. On the map it is a loose settlement: blocks of family compounds, sandy streets and a few main roads, surrounded by wide open land. The pattern is typical of towns in the Sahel, with space between buildings and routes heading out in several directions.
Kanel serves as the seat of its department, so administrative buildings, markets and schools gather in the centre. Beyond the town, the landscape alternates between seasonal grazing land and cultivated fields, depending on the rains. Much of the region's life follows the rhythm of the river valley to the north and east.
A Kanel map poster is spare and open, an unusual subject for a wall. There are no waterfronts or towers, only the outline of a town built for its climate, with streets, compounds and roads spreading into the plain. The large areas of empty space give the print a calm, almost meditative quality.

Roads outward
A few main routes leave the town toward the river valley and neighbouring settlements. They are the strongest lines on the map.
Open Sahel land
Beyond the built-up area, the map opens into wide, empty space, reflecting the dry grazing and farming country around the town.
