Kovel Map Poster & Print
Kovel is best known as a railway town, and the map confirms it. Lines come in from Lutsk, Sarny, Brest, Chełm and Volodymyr and meet in a large junction beside the city. The spread of tracks and sidings is as prominent on the poster as the streets themselves.
The small Turia River winds through Kovel on its way north to the Prypiat, adding a soft curve to the flat Polissia-edge landscape. The city received Magdeburg rights in the sixteenth century. Its position on the railways made it strategically important in both world wars, and it remains a key border crossing point for rail traffic.
A Kovel map poster sets the fan of railway lines against the river's slow bends and the modest grid of the centre. Together they make a composition that is both technical and calm. Railway enthusiasts will recognise it immediately, and so will anyone who has changed trains here.
