Kristiansand Map Poster & Print
Kristiansand is on the south coast of Norway, facing the Skagerrak. Its centre, Kvadraturen, is a regular grid of rectangular blocks laid out after King Christian IV founded the town in 1641. The grid fills a flat piece of land between the Otra river on one side and the harbour on the other, which makes it unusually clear on a map.
Around that core the landscape becomes irregular: rocky peninsulas, bays and small islands along the coast, and wooded hills inland. Odderøya, once a fortified island, now a recreation area, lies just off the centre. The harbour includes ferry connections to Denmark, and the Kilden performing arts centre stands on the waterfront.

The Otra river meets the sea on the eastern edge of the centre, with bridges connecting the grid to the neighbourhoods across the water.
Skerries and Odderøya
Small islands, rocky points and the peninsula of Odderøya break up the coastline south of the centre, giving the map a textured seaward edge.
