Ravines and arroyos
Dry watercourses run through the neighbourhood. The map shows them as irregular gaps where streets stop short or bend to follow the edge.

关于地图
La Joya Map Poster & Print
La Joya lies in the Tijuana area of Baja California, not far from the United States border. Like much of this part of the city region, it grew quickly on uneven ground, and the terrain shows in every street. Blocks that start out on a regular grid soon twist and break where the land drops into ravines or rises over ridges.
The result is a street pattern with two voices. On flatter ground the roads run in short straight lines and form compact rectangular blocks. On the slopes they curve, dead-end or zigzag to find a workable gradient. Dry arroyos cut through the area, and in many places the streets simply stop at their edge, leaving empty spaces in the map.
Tijuana is one of the busiest border cities in the world, and communities like La Joya are part of how it has spread outward over the hills. A La Joya map poster records that growth in plain lines: a neighbourhood shaped as much by topography as by planning, set within the wider landscape of the region.

Grid on the hills
Where the ground allows, the streets form small regular blocks. Where it does not, they bend and twist, creating a lively mix of order and improvisation.
City edge
La Joya is part of the fast-growing edge of Tijuana, where new streets have spread over the hills within reach of the United States border.
