Lampertheim Map Poster & Print
Lampertheim is in southern Hesse, on the flat Hessisches Ried just north of Mannheim and across the Rhine from Worms. The map is shaped by the river. West of the town, the old arm of the Rhine known as the Lampertheimer Altrhein curves through meadows and floodplain woodland, a protected landscape left over from the days before the Rhine was straightened in the nineteenth century.
The town itself is compact, with an older centre around the neo-Gothic church of St. Andreas, locally called the Dom des Ried, and newer districts spreading across the level ground. Rail lines and main roads cross the plain towards Mannheim, Darmstadt and Worms. Outside the town, long rectangular fields fill the map, many of them planted with the asparagus the area is known for.
