Langarūd lies in the east of Gilan province, on the humid plain between the Alborz mountains and the Caspian Sea. From above the town is a compact centre with streets reaching out into a landscape of rice paddies and small villages. A river runs through the area toward the sea, and the forested foothills begin to rise to the south.
Gilan is one of the wettest and greenest parts of Iran, and the land around Langarūd reflects that. Rice fields fill the lowlands, and tea gardens climb the lower slopes of the foothills. The Caspian coast is only a short distance to the north, where the land meets the water in a long, sandy line.
A Langarūd map poster shows this layered landscape: the town at its centre, the river, the fine grid of the paddies and the mountains in the background. Roads and rural lanes branch out in every direction, connecting the town to the villages of the plain.
