Leominster sits in north-central Massachusetts, in Worcester County, beside its twin city Fitchburg. The map shows a classic New England pattern: a compact downtown where roads converge, older streets radiating outward, and later suburban lanes curling into the hills. The North Branch of the Nashua River runs through town, and Route 2 and Interstate 190 meet at its edge.
The city built its fortune on combs and later plastics, becoming known as the Pioneer Plastics City. Among its best-known products was the pink plastic lawn flamingo, designed here in the 1950s. Leominster is also the birthplace of John Chapman, remembered as Johnny Appleseed, whose legend of planting orchards across the American frontier began in these hills.
