Limoges Map Poster
Limoges grew from two separate settlements, and from above you can still see both. The Cité sits around the cathedral close to the Vienne, while the Château quarter climbs the higher ground to the northwest. Tight, curving streets fill each core, and a ring of boulevards traces the line of the old walls. Beyond them, later neighbourhoods run out in looser, more regular blocks.
The Vienne runs along the southern edge of the historic centre and gives the map its strongest line. Old stone bridges cross it close to the cathedral, and green banks follow the water east and west. North of the centre, the railway runs in toward the Gare des Bénédictins, whose long tracks and yards cut a clear diagonal through the streets.
Limoges is known around the world for porcelain, and before that for enamel work, both of which shaped its workshops and kilns for centuries.
