Ludwigsburg Map Poster & Print
Ludwigsburg, just north of Stuttgart, was founded in the early eighteenth century by Duke Eberhard Ludwig of Württemberg as a residence town, and its map still shows that intention. Long, straight streets run at right angles, a large central market square sits in the middle and the vast Residential Palace with its gardens dominates the eastern side.
The palace grounds, now known as the Blühendes Barock gardens, form a large, formal block of paths and parterres. Tree-lined avenues lead north to the smaller Favorite hunting lodge and on toward Monrepos, a lake palace set in parkland. The Neckar river curves past to the east, giving the town a natural edge.
