Mahabad River
The river runs the length of the city, a natural spine that the streets follow and cross. It divides the city into its two banks.

关于地图
Mahābād Map Poster & Print
Mahābād lies in the southern part of West Azerbaijan province, in a valley where the Mahabad River flows north toward Lake Urmia. The city stretches along the river with hills rising on either side, so on a map its outline follows the valley, long and fairly narrow. The older centre sits close to the water, and newer districts climb the slopes.
Just south of the city, a dam holds back the river in a reservoir whose irregular shape stands out clearly on the map. The water irrigates the plains downstream, where fields spread out toward the lake. Bridges connect the two banks within the city and give the street pattern a series of crossing points.
Mahābād is a major centre of Kurdish culture in Iran, and in 1946 it was the capital of the short-lived Republic of Mahabad. A Mahābād map poster shows how closely the city is tied to its river. It runs from the reservoir in the south to the streets packed along the banks and the open land beyond.

Reservoir to the south
A dam just outside the city creates a lake whose branching arms reach into the surrounding valleys, a strong, irregular shape at the edge of the map.
Hillside districts
Newer neighbourhoods spread onto the slopes around the valley, where streets curve with the terrain instead of following the straighter lines near the river.

为什么选Mahābād
一张有意义的地图
Mahābād holds a special place in Kurdish memory, and for families from the city this map keeps its river and streets close. Put the city's name in the title and a family name, a year or a dedication in the subtitle.
The river and reservoir stand out well in Blueprint and Noir, while Classic, Paper and Sand keep the look calm and understated. Download six sizes as 300 DPI PNG and PDF files for $9, or order a matte printed poster from a nearby print partner.
