Manuguru lies in Bhadradri Kothagudem district in north-eastern Telangana, not far from the Godavari river. Its growth is tied to coal. The Singareni Collieries operate mines in the area, and the town also has one of India's heavy water plants, run by the Department of Atomic Energy.
On a map, Manuguru is an industrial landscape. Residential colonies built for mine and plant workers appear as planned clusters of streets. Older settlement grows along the main roads, and rail lines and mine areas break the ground in between. Forest and farmland surround the whole area, softening the edges.
