Masvingo Map Poster & Print
Masvingo lies in southeastern Zimbabwe on open, rolling country with granite outcrops. It was founded in 1890 as Fort Victoria and is usually described as the country's oldest colonial town. From above, the centre is a regular grid of wide streets, with suburbs and townships extending in looser patterns beyond it and the Mucheke River running through the town.
Main roads leave Masvingo toward Harare, Bulawayo, Beitbridge and Mutare, and on the map they form a clear star of routes from the centre. Southeast of the town, Lake Mutirikwi, one of the largest inland bodies of water in Zimbabwe, spreads through the hills with a long, branching shoreline.
