Mataram Map Poster & Print
Mataram is the capital of West Nusa Tenggara and the largest city on the island of Lombok in Indonesia. It lies on the western plain of the island, facing the Lombok Strait, with the land rising gradually east toward the slopes of Mount Rinjani. On a map the city spreads from the coast inland in a broad, fairly even pattern.
The urban area has grown together from several older towns, including Ampenan on the coast and Cakranegara inland, which developed under Balinese rule. The Balinese influence remains visible in temples and in the Mayura water palace, whose large pool sits within the city, as well as in the orderly street grid of the eastern districts.
A Mataram map poster shows the city as a sequence of distinct zones: the coastal edge at Ampenan, the administrative centre, and the regular blocks of Cakranegara further east. Rivers flowing down from the mountains cross the city in thin lines, linking the uplands with the sea.
