Melrose Map Poster & Print
Melrose is a small city in Middlesex County, Massachusetts, about seven miles north of downtown Boston. It grew as a railroad suburb in the nineteenth century, and the commuter line still runs down the middle of it, with several stations inside city limits. The Orange Line terminus at Oak Grove sits on its southern border with Malden.
On a map, Melrose is organised around two parallel north–south lines: the railway and Main Street. Residential streets branch out from both into dense neighbourhoods of Victorian and early twentieth-century houses. To the west, the Middlesex Fells Reservation breaks the pattern with rocky woodland and trails. Ell Pond, close to the centre, adds a compact patch of water beside the civic buildings and playing fields.
