Merzig Map Poster
Merzig is on the Saar in the north-west of Saarland, not far from the borders with Luxembourg and France. The river flows through a broad valley here, and the town is built along its banks. The centre lies on the east bank, and wooded hills rise on both sides, giving the map a clear frame.
The Romanesque church of St. Peter is one of the oldest buildings in the historic centre. Merzig is also known for Viez, the regional apple cider, which has its own festival in town, and for a wolf park on the edge of the forest. Downstream, near Mettlach, the Saar forms its famous loop.
