This large freshwater lake lies just inland of the town. Its wide outline gives the poster a second major shape alongside the sea.

关于地图
Miragoâne Map Poster & Print
Miragoâne is the capital of Nippes department, on the northern shore of Haiti's long southern peninsula. It faces the Gulf of Gonâve across a small, sheltered harbour. Just inland lies Lake Miragoâne, one of the largest natural freshwater lakes in the Caribbean, so the town is surrounded by water on two sides.
The layout shows that setting clearly. Streets start at the harbour and climb the steep ground behind it, turning and doubling back to cope with the slope, and a church on the high ground looks out over the bay. Beyond the ridge the land falls toward the lake, whose wide outline fills a large part of the frame.
A Miragoâne map poster is two bodies of water joined by a narrow strip of streets. In black and white, the sea and the lake appear as large blank areas, and the town between them is drawn in fine, winding lines. It is a meaningful piece for Haitians from Nippes, and for the diaspora who remember the harbour.

A harbour on the gulf
The small harbour on the Gulf of Gonâve is where the town began, and it remains the base of the street network.
Streets on the slope
Roads climb steeply from the waterfront and curve with the hillside, so the map has a finely layered, terraced texture.
