River oasis
The Moquegua River carves a thin green corridor through the desert, and the city, fields and roads all hug this strip, leaving the surrounding hills almost empty on the map.

关于地图
Moquegua Map Poster & Print
Moquegua lies in the far south of Peru, where the Andes descend toward the Pacific through some of the driest country on earth. The city follows the valley of the Moquegua River, and on a map the contrast is stark: a narrow ribbon of cultivated land and streets, pressed between wide, empty slopes that the cartographer leaves almost blank.
The historic centre keeps a regular Spanish grid around its Plaza de Armas, and many older houses still carry the sloping mojinete roofs that locals associate with the city. Outward from the centre, newer districts climb the valley sides in looser patterns. The valley has long been known for vineyards and pisco, and farmland shows as a soft band along the river.
Northeast of the city rises Cerro Baúl, a flat-topped mountain once occupied as a Wari settlement and still a landmark on the horizon. A Moquegua map poster captures that relationship between oasis and desert, where every street owes its existence to the water running down from the highlands. It is a portrait of a place defined by what surrounds it.

Colonial grid
Around the Plaza de Armas the streets form a tidy Spanish checkerboard, giving the centre a crisp, regular texture that stands out against the irregular valley edges.
Cerro Baúl
The flat-topped mountain northeast of the city was a Wari stronghold centuries before the Spanish arrived, and its distinctive silhouette remains the valley's best-known landmark.

为什么选Moquegua
一张有意义的地图
For those who grew up among its vineyards or passed through on the way between the coast and the altiplano, Moquegua is a very particular kind of home. The map holds both the intimate grid of the centre and the scale of the landscape beyond it.
Add a title, a subtitle or a meaningful date, and edit the coordinates line to suit. The design comes in five styles, from Classic black & white to warm Sand, and is available as $9 HD files or as a printed poster shipped from a print partner.
