Offa lies in the south of Kwara State, in the Yoruba-speaking part of north-central Nigeria. On a map, the town has the typical form of an older Yoruba settlement: a dense core of irregular streets around the traditional centre, surrounded by newer neighbourhoods laid out in more regular blocks as the town has grown outward.
Main roads leave the town toward Ilorin and other nearby towns, giving the street network a radiating structure. The railway line between Lagos and the north passes through Offa, adding a long, steady line to the map that cuts across the curves of the roads.
Offa is known as a centre of education and trade in the region, home to the Federal Polytechnic, and it has a long history as one of the older towns of the area. An Offa map poster reduces this layered town to clear lines, showing both its traditional core and its newer outskirts.
