Ogura lies in Gunma Prefecture, at the northwestern edge of the Kantō Plain, where the flat land begins to rise toward the mountains of central Japan. Communities here combine suburban housing with small farms, and the prefecture is known for the dry winter wind, the karakkaze, that sweeps down from the mountains across the plain.
From above, the area has the fine-grained texture typical of rural and peri-urban Japan. Narrow lanes wind between houses and field plots, while a few wider roads cut straighter paths toward neighbouring towns. There is no single dense centre; instead, clusters of buildings spread across the landscape, separated by patches of cultivated land that the map renders as calm open space.
