Olivet sits just south of Orléans, between the Loire and the woodland of Sologne. What shapes it most is the Loiret, a short river that rises from springs in the nearby Parc Floral and winds west through Olivet before joining the Loire. On a map the river is a thin, meandering line lined with gardens and old mill sites. Residential streets spread north and south of it.
The banks of the Loiret have long drawn people from Orléans to walk, row and eat by the water. That makes Olivet feel more like a riverside retreat than a suburb. The town is also known for its tree and plant nurseries.
