关于地图
Piacenza Map Poster & Print
Piacenza stands on the right bank of the Po, close to where the Trebbia flows into it, at the western end of Emilia-Romagna. The Romans founded the city in 218 BC as Placentia, and the regular grid of that colony can still be traced in the streets of the historic centre. Around it, the course of the sixteenth-century walls marks the edge of the old city.
Piacenza is also the starting point of the Via Emilia, the Roman road that runs south-east across the region to Rimini, and on the map it is still a straight line leaving the city. In the centre, Piazza Cavalli takes its name from the two bronze equestrian statues of Farnese dukes in front of the Palazzo Gotico, the medieval town hall.
A Piacenza map poster follows a clear historical logic: the Roman grid at the heart, looser medieval streets around it, the ring of the former walls, and the wide curve of the Po to the north with its bridges. It is the kind of city plan that rewards anyone interested in how European towns grew.

Line of the walls
The partly preserved bastioned walls of the Farnese era trace a polygonal ring around the centre, separating the old city from later districts.
The Po river
The broad river runs along the north side of Piacenza and is crossed by road and rail bridges, giving the poster a strong natural boundary.
