关于地图
Qacha’s Nek Map Poster & Print
Qacha’s Nek is the capital of the district of the same name, in the south-east of Lesotho, close to the border crossing into South Africa's Eastern Cape. Like all of Lesotho it sits at high altitude, and its map is dominated by terrain: a compact town on sloping ground, roads that wind to follow the contours, and steep, lightly settled valleys in every direction.
The town takes its name from Qacha, a nineteenth-century chief, while nek is a word for a mountain pass or saddle, a fair description of its position on a route between highland Lesotho and the lowlands to the east. Houses and small plots spread out from the centre along roads and ridges rather than in a regular grid.
A Qacha’s Nek map poster is an image of a mountain town rather than a city. In monochrome the sparse road network looks almost like a drawing of the landscape itself, tracing ridges and hollows, with plenty of open space that gives the poster a quiet, spacious feel.

Contour-following roads
Streets bend and switch back to cope with the slope, so the road pattern itself describes the shape of the hills around the town.
Scattered settlement
Outside the small centre, homesteads and fields spread thinly along ridges and valley sides, a pattern typical of rural Lesotho and delicate on paper.
