Rees Map Poster
Rees sits directly on the Rhine in the flat country of the Lower Rhine, and the river dominates any map of it. The broad channel curves past the town. The old centre is a small, tight cluster of streets on the bank, and a riverside promenade runs along its edge. Behind it, newer neighbourhoods and farmland spread across the floodplain, crossed by dykes and drainage ditches.
Rees is one of the oldest towns on the Lower Rhine, with medieval town rights. Parts of its fortifications still stand along the waterfront. A road bridge crosses the Rhine near the town and links it with Kalkar on the opposite bank.
A Rees map poster works almost like a study in scale. The narrow lanes of the old town sit beside a river several hundred metres wide. On the poster, that wide ribbon of water balances the fine street detail, and the dykes and field lines of the floodplain fill out the rest of the frame.
