The causeway
A narrow road embankment links the island to the mainland across shallow water. It is a single thin line that anchors the whole composition.

关于地图
Reichenau Island Map Poster & Print
Reichenau is the largest island in Lake Constance. It lies in the Untersee, the western part of the lake, close to the city of Konstanz. From above it is a gentle oval of low land a few kilometres long. It is surrounded on all sides by calm water and connected to the mainland by a slim causeway that shows clearly on any map.
The island is divided among three historic villages, Oberzell, Mittelzell and Niederzell. Each has grown up around one of its early medieval churches. Between them lies a fine patchwork of fields and glasshouses, because Reichenau is known for intensive vegetable growing. Small lanes cross the island in a loose grid.
Reichenau was a major Benedictine monastery in the early Middle Ages, and the monastic island has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2000. A Reichenau Island map poster shows how neatly it all fits together: churches, villages and fields on a small island in open water.

Three villages

Field patchwork
The spaces between the villages are divided into narrow plots and glasshouses. From above they read as a fine, orderly texture.
