Reims Map Poster & Print
Reims lies on the Vesle River in the Champagne region of northeastern France. On a map the centre is enclosed by a ring of boulevards, and the river and the Aisne–Marne canal run in parallel along its western edge. Outside that ring the city spreads into later districts, rail yards and, further out, the vineyards of the Montagne de Reims.
The Gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame is where French kings were crowned for centuries, and it is a UNESCO World Heritage site together with the Palace of Tau and the Basilica of Saint-Remi. Reims is also a centre of champagne production, with cellars cut deep into the chalk below the city. In May 1945 the German surrender was signed here.
A Reims map poster brings out the city's clear structure: the dense centre inside its boulevards, the straight line of the canal, and the Roman Porte de Mars on the northern side of the ring. It is an orderly, balanced composition.
