Rugby Map Poster & Print
Rugby is a market town in Warwickshire, in the English Midlands. On a map, the compact historic centre sits on a gentle rise, with roads spreading from it in every direction. The upper River Avon runs past the northern edge of the town, and the Oxford Canal winds around it in wide, looping curves.
The town gave its name to rugby football, which, according to tradition, began at Rugby School in the early nineteenth century. The school's buildings and playing fields are still close to the town centre. Rugby also grew as a railway junction, and the West Coast Main Line still passes through the town.
A Rugby map poster brings these layers together. The narrow streets of the old centre, the broad school grounds, the straight railway lines and the slow curves of the canal all appear within one frame. The result shows how a small market town was reshaped by the Victorian age.
