Rutherglen Map Poster & Print
Rutherglen lies on the south side of the River Clyde, southeast of central Glasgow, in South Lanarkshire. It is one of Scotland's oldest royal burghs, with a charter dating to the twelfth century under David I. On the map that long history appears in its unusually wide Main Street, the spine of the town.
To the north the Clyde bends past the town, crossed by Rutherglen Bridge into Dalmarnock and the East End of Glasgow. Around Main Street the older streets give way to tenement blocks, and then to twentieth-century housing climbing the gentle slope south toward Burnside and Cathkin. Parks and a railway line break up the dense urban fabric.
