Central grid
The centre keeps a compact block pattern around the main square, typical of Colombian towns. It is the most regular part of the map and its natural focus.

关于地图
Samaniego Map Poster & Print
Samaniego is a municipality in the Andean part of Nariño, in southwestern Colombia, and its map is shaped by the mountains. The town sits on uneven ground, and its streets follow the lie of the land: a small central grid where the slope allows it, and roads that bend and switch back as they leave the centre.
Around the town the land breaks up into ridges and valleys cut by streams. Roads to neighbouring municipalities follow the contours in long, winding lines, while scattered rural settlements appear along the ridges. From above, the built-up area is small and tight, surrounded by a much larger and more irregular rural landscape.
A Samaniego map poster is a quiet portrait of a mountain town, focused on the street pattern at its core and the curves of the roads leading out. For families from Samaniego, whether they live there, in Pasto or further away, the map offers a way to keep the shape of home on the wall.

Winding roads
Roads leaving town bend and double back across the slopes. On the poster they form loose curves that contrast with the straight streets of the centre.
Valleys and ridges
Streams and valleys divide the land around the town. Their lines give the edges of the map a natural, branching texture.
