关于地图
Sasayama Map Poster & Print
Sasayama, now part of Tamba-Sasayama in Hyōgo, grew up around a castle built in 1609 under the direction of Tokugawa Ieyasu. The castle grounds are the most striking shape on the map: a nearly square enclosure framed by wide moats, set in the middle of the town. Streets of the old castle town surround it, including a quarter of former samurai residences and rows of merchant houses.
The town lies in a basin surrounded by forested mountains. From above, the built-up area forms a compact island among rice fields, and the fields in turn meet steep, wooded slopes. Small rivers and irrigation channels wind through the valley floor. The region is well known for its black soybeans, and every summer the Dekansho festival brings people out for dancing.
A Sasayama map poster puts the castle square right at the centre of attention. In black and white, the double outline of the moats reads almost like an architectural plan. The surrounding grid of old streets and the quiet edge where town gives way to fields make it one of the more composed small-town maps in Japan.

Castle-town streets
Around the moats, the streets of the former samurai and merchant districts follow a planned layout that has survived from the Edo period.
Mountain basin
Rice fields and forested hills surround the compact town. On the map they create a soft, open border that contrasts with the dense centre.

为什么选Sasayama
一张有意义的地图
Sasayama suits anyone who loves Japanese castle towns, old streets or the countryside of Hyōgo. The strong geometry of the moats makes the map work as a piece of design, even for people who have never visited.
You can add your own title and subtitle, such as a travel date or a line in Japanese, and edit the coordinates line. The five styles are Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint and Sand. Paper and Sand suit the quiet mood of the town especially well.
