Schneverdingen lies in the heart of the Lüneburg Heath, between Hamburg and Bremen. The town is compact, with a small historic core and residential streets spreading gently outward. What makes the map distinctive is the land around it: wide areas of heath, woodland and moor, broken only by sandy tracks, small hamlets and the occasional farm road.
Just outside the town, the Höpen heath stretches over open, rolling ground, and it turns purple in late summer when the heather blooms. Schneverdingen marks the season with its Heideblütenfest, one of the best-known events in the region. On the map, the heath is an open space criss-crossed by paths, with patches of forest and a few roads running through it.
Close to the town lies the Pietzmoor, a raised bog crossed by wooden boardwalks, which adds another layer of texture to the landscape.
