关于地图
Shimodate Map Poster & Print
Shimodate lies on the flat northern edge of the Kantō plain in western Ibaraki, in a landscape of rice paddies and farm roads. From above, the built-up area gathers around the railway station and thins out quickly into fields laid out in neat rectangles. Rivers flowing south toward the Tone basin frame the area, and their banks and levees add long, gentle curves to an otherwise orderly scene.
The station is the town's hinge. It is where the JR Mito Line meets the Mooka Railway, a small line known for running a restored steam locomotive on some weekends. Shimodate was a city in its own right until 2005, when it merged with neighbouring towns to form Chikusei, and the name remains in everyday use for the station and its surrounding district.
A Shimodate map poster captures a very Japanese kind of place: a compact core of short streets, rail lines leaving in several directions, and a wide field pattern around it all. In black and white the paddy grid becomes a fine texture, and the railway lines read as the clearest strokes on the page.

Paddy field grid
Around the built-up area, rice fields are divided into regular plots by farm roads and channels, giving the edges of the map a quiet, even texture.
River levees
Rivers crossing the plain are lined with embankments that show up as long, softly curving lines against the straight field boundaries.

为什么选Shimodate
一张有意义的地图
For someone who grew up in Shimodate, or who rode the steam train through the countryside here, this map keeps a small place in view. Its balance of town and field works well in a calm room, such as a bedroom or a study corner.
The title, subtitle and coordinates line are yours to write, so the poster can say Shimodate even though the city is now called Chikusei. Pick from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and download the HD files for $9 or order a print.
