Sikasso Map Poster & Print
Sikasso sits in the far south of Mali, close to the borders with Burkina Faso and Côte d'Ivoire. From above, the town has no single axis. Main roads leave the centre in several directions and link it to farms and neighbouring countries, and between them a dense weave of smaller lanes fills in. Outlines of fields and tree cover press in close at the edges of the built area.
The town was once the capital of the Kénédougou kingdom, which ringed it with earthen fortifications known as the tata. In the late 1880s those walls held out against a long siege by Samori Touré. Sikasso finally fell to French forces in 1898. The low hill at its centre, where the royal quarter stood, is still part of how locals picture their town.
A Sikasso map poster reduces all of this to its structure. It shows how the roads converge, where the blocks tighten near the market and where the street grid thins into open land. The region is known as one of Mali's wettest and most fertile, famous for cotton and fruit. On paper the edges of the map carry that sense of a town surrounded by cultivated ground.

The historic heart of the Kénédougou capital, once enclosed by earthen walls, sits within today's denser central blocks. The street pattern there feels tighter than in the newer quarters around it.
Edge of the savanna
At the town's margins the street network loosens and breaks into scattered tracks. That leaves open space on the poster that hints at the farmland beyond.
