关于地图
Smara Map Poster & Print
Smara lies in the interior of Western Sahara, on the stony desert plains far inland from the Atlantic coast. From above, the town is a compact grid of streets and low buildings with little around it but open land, crossed by a few roads and the faint lines of dry watercourses that carry water only after rare rains.
The town was founded in the late nineteenth century by the religious leader Sheikh Ma al-Aynayn, who built a kasbah and a mosque here as a centre of learning and a stopping point for caravans. The ruins of that complex still stand near the town, while most of today's streets were laid out much later in a regular, planned pattern.
A Smara map poster is a study in contrast between order and space. The rectangular blocks of the town sit within an expanse of almost untouched land, with roads running out in long lines toward the horizon. The result is spare and graphic, and it looks especially striking in Sand or Noir.

Historic kasbah
The remains of Ma al-Aynayn's nineteenth-century kasbah and mosque lie near the town, the oldest layer of Smara's history.
Desert roads
A few long roads leave the town across the stony plain, drawing single, almost straight lines that give the empty space its scale.

为什么选Smara
一张有意义的地图
For people with family ties to Smara and the Sahara, the map is a personal reminder of a town that holds meaning far beyond its size. Its restrained, geometric look fits well in a calm, minimal interior.
Set your own title and subtitle, perhaps a family name or a date, and keep the coordinates line. Choose from Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand, and order a matte printed poster or download the files for $9.
